Welcome

Hi there!

Welcome to my WordPress site for English 305: Literary Theory and Writing, or as I like to call it, “An Ode to Kate Chopin.”

This website has been my pride and joy over the course of this semester, and I’m so excited to share it with you! I hope that you’ll grab a few snacks, make yourself at home, and stay awhile.

The first page you will come across on this site is an Introduction that takes a deep dive into my writing process and the value of studying literature. I also discuss my strengths and weaknesses as a writer and how I improved on those weaknesses during this course.

Next, you will get to read a Biography written by a fellow English 305er, Jack Timmer. This will help you get a better understanding of me as a writer and as a person.

In the Presentation Portfolio, you will find four of my best essays written this semester that I have chosen to present to you in web format for easy reading. The first essay I chose to share with you is my Close Reading essay on the paradox of the sea in The Awakening. The second essay in this collection is a Freudian analysis of “The Story of an Hour,” exploring the ego, superego, and id of the main character. The third essay is a Gender Studies essay on the homoerotic relationship between two characters in The Awakening. Finally, the fourth essay is a New Historical take on “The Story of an Hour,” exploring the idea of the New Woman.

For a more in-depth look into my writing process for these four essays, plus two additional essays, head on over to the Process Portfolio. For each of the six essays, I articulated what my writing process was from outline to final draft. I have also provided pdfs of each version of every paper, including edits and professor’s comments.

Take a look at my Blog to read a more informal account of my writing process. If you don’t go there for fun commentary and gifs, go there to hear some new (and some old) music! Each blog post’s title coincides with a song title. Clever, right? The posts highlight the many highs and lows of the semester. They were my favorite part of creating this website, so I highly recommend taking a look at them.

Finally, my Senior Portfolio will house my best essays from each class I took at St. Norbert College as an English Major. It will be where I reflect on my collegiate journey and showcase my growth as a student and as a person.

I hope you find something here that strikes your fancy, whether it’s my take on the value of English literature or my take on the Tottenham Hotspur managerial drama.

Thanks for stopping by!

Anna
